I know how you feel because when I first began my direct selling business over 30 years ago I was sick to my stomach when I thought about building a team. I was in my twenties for Pete’s sake; nothing I had learned previously had prepared me with growing, supporting and leading a team. My early direct selling years were a lot of trial and error on my part. I’d try something and it didn’t work so I’d look work on some new skills, try something different and keep up the pattern until I found something that worked! I was very fortunate to have had excellent sales training with the first company I was with and modeled what the top sellers with my company were doing until I continuously began to earn yearly sales awards. But, sponsoring and building a team was a horse of another color. In fact I became a leader with 6 new members on January 1’st, 1981 and on January 3’rd all but 2 of my recruits quit the business. I was very disappointed and ready to throw in the towel and just focus on personal sales because I knew I could count on myself and my track record with recruits wasn’t anything to shout about! (I sure am glad I hung in there because getting “BIG Bonus Checks” was awesome!)
